White (GILBERT an English naturalist)

GILBERT, an English naturalist; born in Selborne, England, July 18, 1720. He wrote: "The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne in the County of Southampton" (1789); and a posthumous work edited from his papers, "The Naturalist's Calendar, with Observations in Various Branches of Natural vations in Various Branches of Natural "The Naturalist's Calendar, with Obser- History" (1795).
