White soil when touched, as is usually the case with wax, 2 ounces; asphaltum, 2 ounces. Melt lampblack preparations. the wax in a clean pipkin, add the asphaltum 2967. Varnish for Harness. Take in powder, and boil to a proper consistence. 95 per cent. alcohol, 1 gallon; white pine Pour it into warm water, and form it into turpentine, 14 pounds; gum shellac, 1층 balls, which must be kneaded, and put into pounds; Venice turpentine, 1 gill. Let these taffeta for use. Or: white wax, 2 ounces; Bur- stand in a jug in the sun or by a stove until gundy pitch, 1/2 ounce; black pitch, 1/2 ounce.

Melt together, and add by degrees 2 ounces powdered asphaltum, and boil it till a drop cooled on a plate becomes brittle.
