Ark
Sea Terms
The vessel built by Noah. According to the Bible it was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits broad and 30 cubits high. This is equivalent to 525 feet, 87 feet 6 inches, and 52 feet 6 inches. In the year 1609 one Peter Jansen built a vessel of exact proportions as the ark, although a much smaller vessel, and it was discovered to be most convenient for stowage of cargo, and calculated to contain one-third more cargo than ordinary vessels of the same tonnage.
