Jetty

A kind of dyke constructed of timber, earth, stone, etc., at the entrance to river harbors, for the purpose of concentrating the water, and thereby deepening the channel. The largest system of jetties in the United States is at the mouth of the Mississippi River in the Gulf of Mexico.
