Return Sound Tubes

The tubes placed in the wheel-house of a steamer which run to the engine-room and convey to the former place the sounds of the bells rung to the engineer. By these means the officer in the wheel-house knows if the number of pulls made on the bell-wire handles are correspondingly sounded on the gongs, etc.
