Side-Boys

Boys who attend the gangway when officers of rank enter upon or leave a vessel. The admiral and vice-admiral are entitled to eight side-boys; rear admirals and commodores, six; captains and commanders, four; all officers below the grade of commander are entitled to two side-boys.
