Human Longevity

Peter Czartan, a Hungarian peasant, is recorded to have been born 1539, and to have died 1724, i. e., he lived 185 years.

Thomas Parr, a native of Shropshire, is said to have lived 169 years. At that age he went on invitation to the court of Charles I. and there eating too much died of indigestion. Harvey, who dissected him, declared that but for this accident he might have lived for many years longer.

M. Chevreul, born on the 31st August, 1786, died April 10th, 1889, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Lanchester, born, Gallow Hill, Yorkshire, May 29, 1783, (1893) still living in the enjoyment of active health.
