Hematite
A valuable iron ore, consisting chiefly of peroxide of iron. It occurs in large quantities, its two chief varieties being red and brown hematite. An earthy kind, called iron-froth, consists almost entirely of iron. Brown hematite contains about 14 per cent of water. See RED HEMATITE.
