Hook
A forged piece of iron bent into a suitable curve for some purpose of catching, holding, or sustaining; such as the crane-hook, sling-hook, chain-hook, changing-hook, etc. The importance of making all such hooks well and of good material will suggest itself to those who know the risks which are taken daily in the foundry and elsewhere by men who must necessarily pass under and work in close proximity to loads suspended thereon. See CHAIN; CRANES.
