Fordham University
a Roman Catholic institution for higher education, FORELANDS formerly known as St. John's College.
The latter institution was opened in 1841 as the New York Diocesan College and Seminary. It then included St. Joseph's Seminary and a college department.
The seminary was in 1864 removed to Troy, and in 1896 to Dunwoodie.
In 1907 the charter of the college was amended to authorize the establishment of law and medical departments, and at the same time the name was changed to Fordham University. It is situated in Fordham, N. Y. In 1919 there were 201 instructors and 3,209 students. The president is Rev. E. P.
