Maui Island
one of the smaller of the Hawaiian islands. and divisional commander, 1915. Served "Loaves and Fishes," "The Land of in the Soudan and South African War, and in the World War, 1914-1917, being wounded and mentioned in dispatches seven times. Later he had command of the Tigris Army Corps, and from August, 1916, became commanderin-chief of the British Mesopotamian Expedition. The series of defeats which the British army had sustained up to that GENERAL MAUDE time at the hands of the Turks were vance toward a victorious end set in. checked by his appointment, and the ad- General Maude was from 1901 to 1904 military secretary to the governor-general of Canada, and paid repeated visits to the United States. In March, 1917, he was made officer of the Crown of Italy, and died in the following November.
